The International Maritime Institute of Nigeria has announced a three-day executive programme aimed at advancing understanding of Nigeria’s blue economy policy, as stakeholders intensify efforts to harness the country’s vast marine resources.

The institute, established by the Nigerian Navy, disclosed in a statement on Wednesday that the high-level training will be held from April 15 to 17, 2026, at its auditorium located within NNS QUORRA, Harbour Road, Apapa, Lagos.

According to the Director-General of IMION, Thaddeus Udofia, the programme forms part of the institute’s ongoing executive training series on the blue economy, designed to strengthen capacity and policy awareness across Nigeria’s maritime sector.

Udofia noted that the initiative will feature a distinguished faculty of experts, including renowned academic Comfort Etok, former Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency Mfon Usoro, and immediate past president of the Nigerian Maritime Law Association, Funke Agbor.

The statement explained that participants will engage with a comprehensive curriculum covering core areas such as the fundamentals of the blue economy, Nigeria’s regulatory and policy framework, key priority sectors, and emerging investment opportunities. It added that the programme will also examine critical policy challenges, as well as sustainability and governance considerations shaping the sector.

A capstone session focused on developing strategic policy implementation briefs is expected to round off the training, providing participants with practical tools to contribute to policy execution.

Organisers said the programme is tailored for a broad spectrum of stakeholders, including government officials, policymakers, civil society advocates, and professionals working in ports, logistics, tourism, fisheries, and aquaculture. Academics, entrepreneurs, community leaders, and development partners are also expected to benefit.

Udofia emphasised that the calibre of facilitators underscores IMION’s commitment to delivering practical, policy-driven insights capable of advancing Nigeria’s blue economy ambitions. He urged maritime professionals and other stakeholders to leverage the platform to deepen their expertise, engage with industry leaders, and contribute to building a sustainable and competitive ocean economy.
