Huawei Outlines Five-Year Mobile Broadband Strategy

GLOBAL technology company, Huawei through its ‘Mobile Broadband 2020’ strategy, has revealed plans to support 6.7 billion mobile broadband users; boosts a 1Gbps access rate, and supports one billion connections for the cellular Internet of Things in the next five years.
This announcement was made recently at the 2015 Global Mobile Broadband Forum, in Hong Kong, China.
Huawei’s Deputy Chairman and Rotating Chief Executive Officer, Ken Hu, who beamed light on the importance of Internet of Things (IoT) to human existence, stressed that “from now until 2020, we have three main targets: supporting 6.7 billion mobile broadband users, supporting a 1Gbps access rate, and supporting one billion connections for the cellular Internet of Things.

Hu said achieving these goals will require technology and business model innovation, as well as cross-industry collaboration. He disclosed that Huawei’s mobile broadband strategy will focus on spectrum, air interface, network architecture, integrated base stations, and operations based on user experience.
“Connecting people remains a top priority, so both quantity and quality matter. The network is the foundation of user experience, but as we focus on the network, we must, at the same time, focus on the user. And in focusing on network performance, we must also keep in mind how users experience the network.”
“We are entering the era of the Internet of Things. This means huge opportunities for the entire mobile telecommunications industry. To realize this IoT vision, we must develop and unify cross-industry standards, contain costs, and promote cooperation among different stakeholders.”
