NUPENG Threatens Showdown Over Members' Condition Of Service

The leadership of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers has issued a 21-day ultimatum to some employers in the oil and gas industry to address the issue of poor conditions of service for their members or face a showdown.

The National president of the union, Williams Akporeha while speaking at a news conference in Lagos said the union is unhappy over the way workers in the oil and gas industry are being treated by multinational oil companies who make billions of Naira from Nigeria but are subjecting their employees to penury.

NUPENG also alleged that some of the oil companies have failed to pay some of their members engaged as contract staff their end of contract benefits even after relieving them of their contracts.

It therefore appealed to the oil companies and other concerned players to look to into the issues failure off which NUPENG threatened to employ all legal means to reverse the situation.
