Krispy Kreme Nigeria Gets a Boost from US Envoy’s Visit

Krispy Kreme Nigeria received a visit on Thursday from the American Ambassador to Nigeria, Stuart Symington.
The envoy extolled the doughnut company for its quality process. During the visit which gave Ambassador Symington a close-up view of Krispy Kreme’s operational processes, he commended the management for the quality of work in the production of doughnuts.
“What makes this special is the quality of people in it. The process of making the doughnut is great and awesome,” he said.

The American Ambassador said that the brand was brought into Nigeria because of the need to invest in the country, adding that the brand has provided employment opportunities for Nigerians, while creating value through its customer oriented services.
Speaking in the same vein, the Chief Executive Officer, American Business Council, Mrs. Margaret Olele, who was also present during the visit, said, “the brand is known all over the world in terms of its products and here in Nigeria, it is obvious they adhere to the global standards with no compromise to food safety.”
Olele added that she was impressed with how Krispy Kreme Nigeria had integrated the local cuisine into the rich heritage of the brand.
Krispy Kreme had run into regulatory issues with the Nigerian food regulatory agency, National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and its sister agency, the Consumer Protection Council (CPC) in early August for using expired raw material ingredients in its doughnut making, leading to the closure of the company’s two Nigerian stores.

But later in August, the CPC announced the re-opening of Krispy Kreme stores citing satisfaction by NAFDAC, the primary and key food safety standard regulator, that the vital question of safe operations have been resolved sufficiently to allow the store to re-open.

Krispy Kreme is an American doughnut and coffee company that entered the Nigerian market in March through a franchise operated by QFA Nigerian Limited, which it said it has signed a development agreement with to open 20 Krispy Kreme stores across the country in the next five years.
