    Glo, Huawei Give ICT Solutions To BUK, Afe Babalola, Igbinedion Varsities

    Globacom, and ICT solutions provider, Huawei, on Wednesday, April 10th, 2019 took their unique empowerment scheme for tertiary institutions to three universities in Nigeria.

    Bayero University, Kano, Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, and Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State, were the benefiting schools. The empowerment package comprised internet routers, smartphones and Glo 4G data.
    Five top performing students of each of the three universities were rewarded with   free smartphones loaded with six months Glo 4G data, while the schools received Glo 4G routers complete with data plans.
    The five beneficiaries from Bayero University are Hussaini Abubakar of the department of Cyber Security, Muhammed Abdulkadir Yala of the department of Software Engineering, Johnson Ifeanyi of the department of Information Technology, as well as Sadiq Ibrahim Shuaib and Sulaimon Badiru of the department of Electrical Engineering.

    Those who received the special package at Afe Babalola University were Ojo Oloruntomi David (Computer Science), Olowomeye Emmanuel Olamide (Chemical Engineering) Ariyo Sharon Ayobami (Human Nutrition And Dietetics), Akpan Unyime Anieti (Law) and Jideofor Lucy Adaego (International Relations and Diplomacy).
    Beneficiaries from Igbinedion University were Ovbude Queen Ohiolei of the department of Mass Communication, Ijaodola Bolaji of the faculty of law, Ehiomhen Kenneth Akhere of the department of Pharmacy, Munemune Ebitimi Arthur of the civil engineering department and Ufuah Eseose Faith of the department of nursing.
    The Vice Chancellor, Afe Babalola University, Professor Michael Olorunfemi Ajisafe, was full of gratitude for Globacom’s Empowerment Scheme for both the students and the institutions, noting that it would facilitate research and learning activities on campuses.

    He explained that the school carefully selected the beneficiaries of the offer who are all outstanding final year students, stating that they had distinguished themselves throughout their years of study. “these are students who have excelled in both character and learning and have been best in their chosen courses of studies for four to five years of their stay on the campus,” he added. He called on the students to strive to maintain the reputation of excellence which the school is reputed for.
    At the Igbinedion University, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Lawrence Ezimonye, applauded Globacom for empowering staff and students of the school, while at the Bayero University, the dean, students affairs department, Dr Shamsudeen Umar, who represented the Vice Chancellor, thanked Globacom and Huawei for what he described as a “noble gesture”.

    Globacom’s Regional Manager, Retail Sales, West 2 region covering Ondo, Ekiti and Kwara States, Mr.  Niyi Ogundirahun, who presented the items urged members of the university community to explore the opportunity of the company’s on-going week-long data clinic to upgrade to Glo 4G to avail themselves of the new speed of life and enjoy memorable communication experience on the network.
    He noted that the availability of Glo 4G in all tertiary institutions in the country validates the claim that Globacom has the widest and most reliable 4G LTE coverage in Nigeria.

    Speaking on behalf of the students, Miss Akpan of Afe Babalola University, who has the highest graduating cumulative grade point average totaling 4.96 out of 5.00 points, gave kudos to Globacom, saying the package would assist her and others in their final year research work.
    Globacom and Huawei have so far organised presentations in four of the 30 tertiary institutions listed as beneficiaries of the scheme which is meant to promote excellence in universities and polytechnics across the country.
