NCDC Announces 195 New Cases of COVID-19, 5 Fatalities in Nigeria

Nigeria’s tally of confirmed cases of COVID-19 rose to 3145 on Wednesday night, after 195 new cases of the novel coronavirus were recorded, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has disclosed.

The agency on its confirmed twitter handle said that the 195 new cases were recorded from 12 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

NCDC also said Nigeria recorded 5 deaths, bringing the total number to 103 and 53 more persons were discharged.
According to a tweet from the Nigeria Center for Disease Control, (NCDC), Lagos State recorded 82 cases of the virus, while 30 cases in Kano, 19 cases in Zamfara, 18 cases in Sokoto, 10 cases in Borno.

Also, the Federal Capital Territory recorded 9 cases and 8 cases in Oyo, while Kebbi and Gombe both have 5 cases each. Ogun reported 4 cases, 3 cases in Kastina, Kaduna and Adamawa have 1 case each.

According to NCDC, as at May 6, 2020, Nigeria has 3,145 Active Cases of COVID-19, 534 have been treated and discharged in the country while 103 deaths have been recorded.
No new state has reported a case in the last 24 hours.

Earlier today, some 14 health workers have tested positive for the novel coronavirus in Kano.

Of the 14, seven are nurses and five medical laboratory scientists, according to the Chairman of the Kano state chapter of the Joint Health Workers Union (JOHESU), Murtala Isa Umar, who spoke to Channels Television on Wednesday.

One medical record officer and cleaner also tested positive for the virus.

Mr Umar said 168 health workers had been exposed to the virus at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital.

Earlier on Wednesday, the state government confirmed that 32 persons had tested positive for the virus in Kano.

The 32 new infections brought the total number of cases recorded in the state to 427, the government said.
