Lagos Unveils 4th Mainland Bridge Logo, Begins Assessment

The Lagos State government is already taking the first step towards actualising the construction of the fourth mainland bridge.

The State government is meeting stakeholders on environmental and social impact assessment for the 4th mainland bridge project.

On Tuesday, the state government formally unveiled the Fourth Mainland Bridge Project.

The proposed 4th Mainland Bridge project will cost over 2billion dollars, and for the first time allow “direct access” from the large suburb of Ikorodu to the Island and the Lekki Free Trade Zone area.

The project will be the longest in Africa that will also create job opportunities, both direct and indirect for the people of Lagos.

Unveiling the Logo in Lagos, State’s Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, who represented Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, said “One of our campaign promises was to revive the 4th mainland bridge project.

“This new bridge when completed will not only ease the burden of commuters, it will also open up business opportunities for the state.

“Therefore, in making our word our bond, we sent out an expression of interest for the construction of the 4th mainland bridge a few months ago, which attracted quite a number of bidders,” he said.

According to him, “I am indeed glad to say we have shortlisted 3 preferred bidders and have moved to the 2nd stage which is unveiling of the 4th mainland bridge (4MB) logo, and the environmental and social impact assessment (ESIA) stakeholders engagement and consultation workshop.

The stakeholders’ meeting had in attendance the project designers, Advanced Engineering Consultants, AEC/Rendel, Sustainability Limited, Har Darsa, representative of Minister of Work and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola; Minister of State for Environment, Mrs. Sharon Ikeazor,  represented by Oluwatoyin Agbenla; Commissioner for Works in Ogun State, Ade Akinsanya; Commissioner for Physical Planning in Lagos State, Dr Idris Salako, policymakers, and people from Ikorodu communities.

The Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, who was represented by the Director of Bridges, Adetunji Adeoye says the fourth mainland bridge is a proposed 37km long bridge connecting Lagos Island, Langbasa, Baiyeku towns, Before, and across Lagos Lagoon, to Ikorodu.
