    COVID-19: Nigeria Reports Sharp Rise, with 317 Cases, 1 Death

    Nigeria reported a sharp rise in COVID-19 cases late Friday with Lagos, Akwa-Ibom, Oyo and Rivers  topping the chat.

    Nigeria's tally of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) climbed to 170,623 with 317 new infections and one COVID-19 related death recorded in 24 hours period, according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control NCDC during its daily COVID-19 update on Friday.

    The nation’s active caseload is now 3,702 up from 3,394 a days ago.

    About eight coronavirus patients recovered between Thursday and Friday, NCDC dashboard showed.

    Nigeria's tally of recoveries has now gone up to 164,780 and the deaths toll recorded from the disease so far stands at 2,131.

    Data released by the health officials shows that the new cases were reported across 10 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

    Lagos, Akwa-Ibom, Oyo and Rivers recorded the highest number of COVID-19 infections on Friday, with 172, 62, 33 and 33 cases respectively.

    While Ekiti and FCT had five cases each, Ogun reported three, Sokoto had two, Bayelsa, Gombe and Kano reported one case each.

    Today’s report includes four states with zero cases: Imo, Kaduna, Nasarawa and Plateau.
