In a press release sent to People magazine, the festival
organisers confirmed Harry Styles, Billie Eilish and Kanye West as headliners
for the two-weekend concert scheduled to hold on April 15 to 17 and April 22 to
24 in Indio, California.
The 2022 Coachella lineup also includes Doja Cat, Megan Thee
Stallion, Lil Baby, Ari Lennox, Phoebe Bridgers, Swedish House Mafia and
88Rising’s Head In The Clouds Forever.
Rapper Travis Scott who was scheduled to perform at the
festival, was removed from its lineup following the tragedy at his Astroworld
festival that left ten dead and hundreds injured last November.
Late last year, it was reported that the festival organisers
had informed Scott’s team of their intent to remove him from the lineup and pay
a kill fee for the cancellation. Reports also state that organisers also
rejected the rapper’s offer to perform for free.
Last August, Coachella festival co-founder Paul Tollett
announced that Scott and Rage Against the Machine would be included in the
festival’s lineup for 2022, as they were set to headline the 2020 festival
before its COVID postponement.
The music festival was delayed and cancelled severally
during the pandemic. Scheduled for the spring of 2020 and then postponed to
October 2020, the festival was once again postponed to April 2021 before it was
cancelled in light of health and safety concerns.
In October, People reported that festival attendees would no
longer need to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19, only a negative
COVID-19 test within 72 hours of arrival.
However, this policy goes against the earlier safety policy set in place by the festivals’ parent company.
