Spotify Is Testing Token-Enabled Music Playlists

Music streaming Spotify is testing a new service called "token-enabled playlists," which allows holders of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to connect their wallets and listen to curated music.

Currently, the service is available to token holders within the Fluf, Moonbirds, Kingship and Overlord communities. The curated playlists will be actively updated during the three-month testing period and can only be accessed by community members via a unique link.

On Wednesday, Overlord, the Web3 gaming and media universe, announced that holders of its lizard-themed Creepz NFT project can connect their Web3 wallet to Spotify. However, due to this, they can access the project’s community-curated “Invasion” playlist. Overlord states the pilot is currently only available for Android users. However, it is in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, and New Zealand.

Spotify confirmed the information through a tweet:

The NFT band KINGSHIP from Universal Music Group also revealed that it had made a token-gated playlist for NFT holders that included songs by Led Zeppelin, Queen, Missy Eliott, Snoop Dogg, and Missy Eliott.

Apoorv Lathey, the lead developer for the NFT liquidity protocol NFTX, tweeted a screenshot from the pilot. Also, that walked users through accessing the curated playlist for KINGSHIP on Spotify.

Spotify provided no additional information about future plans to expand the feature. The international streaming service has tried incorporating NFTs into its service in the past and has over 489 million users. It is big NFT news. NFT promotion was made possible on Spotify profiles by a select group of artists. However, it includes Steve Aoki and The Wombats.
