The event, part of YouTube’s series showcasing African
music’s brightest stars in intimate settings, kicked off in Lagos with Joeboy
taking centre stage. Fans were treated to an exclusive evening delving into
Joeboy’s musical journey and future projects.
During the event, Joeboy candidly discussed his artistic
evolution, from his breakout hit “Fààjí” to chart-toppers like “Baby” and
“Sip.” Engaging in a fireside chat that felt both personal and expansive, he
shared anecdotes behind his music, the evolution of his sound, and the creative
challenges he’s embraced along the way.
However, the highlight of the night was the announcement of
his forthcoming album, promising a new chapter in his artistry. Joeboy stated,
“The new album will be out this year. However, I want to take some time to
really prepare for the release. This way, when it finally drops, everything
will be set up perfectly for a grand launch.”
The evening reached its pinnacle with an unexpected
revelation- Joeboy’s collaboration with the Musical Society of Nigeria (MUSON).
Together, they have crafted an orchestral reinterpretation of his hits,
showcasing not only Joeboy’s versatility but also the collaborative spirit of
Afrobeats. This innovative fusion, set to debut on his YouTube channel,
underscores the boundless possibilities within the African music landscape.
Addy Awofisayo, YouTube Head of Music, Sub-Saharan Africa,
commented, “The ‘Up Close with…’ series provides a platform for African artists
to connect with fans on a deeper level and share their latest projects.” She
emphasized, “Joeboy’s album announcement and innovative MUSON collaboration are
a testament to the relentless creativity and global ambition of African
artists.”
