FREEE Recycle Holding Limited, a UK-Based Holding Company focused on developing, operating and investing in Integrated Recycling and Manufacturing (IRM) Companies in Africa, is proud to announce the launch of its brand and products made from recycled tyres in the UK as part of its #GreenToGo Campaign. This launch serves as a testament to the success of the company's pilot launch in Nigeria and marks the beginning of its full African roll-out plan.
Recognizing the magnitude of the waste
problem in Africa and the critical need for in-country recycling solutions, the
company commenced its pilot operations in Nigeria, recognizing the pressing
need for sustainable waste tyre disposal in the country. Nigeria, with its large population and
rapidly growing automotive industry, faces the challenge of disposing over 11
million waste tyres annually. FREEE Recycle Nigeria developed an Integrated
Recycling and Manufacturing Model which involves recycling discarded tyres into
crumb rubber materials and utilising the materials to manufacture new products
that can be utilised for both commercial and retail purposes.
Speaking at the event, Managing Director, FREEE
Recycle UK, Ifedolapo Runsewe, said; “FREEE Recycle Holding Limited was founded
in the United Kingdom with a mission to develop, operate and invest in
Integrated Recycling and Manufacturing (IRM) Companies across Africa. Nigeria
was chosen as the pilot location due to its significant waste tyre generation
and urgent need for sustainable waste management solutions. Currently,
Nigeria’s tyre market is a staggering 5.7 million units, and is projected to
grow at a rate of 3-5% annually. To address this, we pioneered the Integrated
Recycling and Manufacturing (IRM) model, which seamlessly combines recycling
with manufacturing to ensure that all components of waste materials are maximized
and converted to eco-friendly products.”
The Nigerian Subsidiary, FREEE Recycle
Limited, operates a state-of-the-art recycling and manufacturing facility that
converts waste tyres into finished goods, addressing both the environmental and
social impact of improper disposal methods. The company has also invested in research
and development initiatives which have led to the development of standard operating
procedures for operating and managing a recycling and manufacturing plant while
engaging in vocational and skills acquisition initiatives to develop the skill
level of women and youths in recycling and manufacturing.
FREEE Recycle Nigeria's operation is
aligned with 12 of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals, further
highlighting its commitment to sustainability and environmental impact. The
success achieved is also predicated on its unique sales strategy with 10% of
its products targeted at retail market, 40% targeted at export and 50% focused
on corporates through its Extended Consumer Responsibility Program.
As part of the #GreenToGo Campaign, FREEE Recycle UK's next steps include establishing additional recycling plants within Nigeria, expanding operations in the United Kingdom as a holding company, and partnering with UK-based organizations, investors, and recycling companies. The company also plans to replicate its Integrated Recycling and Manufacturing Model in more locations in Nigeria and Africa, addressing waste management challenges and creating business and job opportunities for SMEs, women, and the youths.
