Granville Chukwure won the first position in the Nigerian
Mathematics and Sciences Olympiad held at the National Mathematical Centre
Abuja in April 2024.
It fetched him an invitation to spar with similar best
brains from other countries.
Granville led the charge by Total Education Development
Academy in the 2024 JAMB examination by scoring 345 marks.
With the unwavering support of the Total Education
Development Academy, Granville Chukwure has been diligently preparing for a
month at the National Mathematical Centre, gearing up for the international
competition.
The competition will occur at Badr Al-Majrathi, Saudi
Arabia, from Sunday, July 21, to Tuesday, July 30.
Granville Chukwuere hails from the Ibaa community in the
Emohua Local Government of Rivers State. He is a son of Samuel Uchechukwu
Chukwure.
Chukwure represented Nigeria in the 2023 International
Chemistry Olympiad in Zurich, Switzerland. It was an excellent experience for
him, his family, the state, and the country.
Nineteen students from TEDA School in rural Eke-Owerri,
Obingwa Local Government of Abia State, scored between 250 and 345 marks in the
2024 JAMB examination. Their results confirmed the school’s top-tier profile in
the Nigerian school community.
TEDA School gladly promotes the good results of its star
students. In the top three are Granville Chukwure, who wants to study Medicine
and Surgery and scored 345 in JAMB; Valeria K. Emordi, who scored 296, also
wants to study Medicine and Surgery; and Victor Enyinnaya, with a JAMB score of
288, seeks to enrol in Chemical Engineering.
The National Mathematical Centre, Abuja, provides the
impetus and organisation for Nigeria’s participation in the Olympiads. The NMC
states, “One of the National Mathematical Centre (NMC) Abuja mandates is to
identify young talents in the Mathematical sciences and train and prepare them
to compete internationally. Through the Centre, Nigeria started participating
in the International Mathematical Olympiad in 2005, first as an Observer
Country and later, in 2006, as a participating country. Nigeria participates in
six central international mathematical science Olympiads annually, coordinated
by the Centre.
Chukwure’s results keep expanding his stakeholders. They now
include the Rivers State government that many look up to for support in this
venture.
