The former Arsenal striker, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, announced his departure from Marseille after a single season. Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood is rumored to be his replacement at the French club.

Aubameyang, a 35-year-old Gabonese striker, joined the southern club from Chelsea in July of last year and subsequently scored 30 goals during the campaign.

Multiple media outlets have reported that English forward Greenwood, who had charges of rape and assault against him dropped in February 2023, is being considered by Marseille.

“It’s time for me to start a new chapter,” Aubameyang said on Instagram.

“I have always followed the advice of my father, who has allowed me to become the player I am and we have made this decision for the next part of my career.

“I spent a year filled with emotion and I thank the club, the staff, my team-mates and our supporters,” he added.

Greenwood had been temporarily relieved from his duties at United since the beginning of 2022 due to certain allegations. However, the prosecution decided to discontinue the charges last year as crucial witnesses retracted their statements, and new information emerged that shed light on the matter.

The 22 year old, was temporarily assigned to Getafe Football Club in Spain for the previous season. During his tenure there, he demonstrated his proficiency by scoring 10 goals in 36 appearances.

Greenwood demonstrated exceptional potential during his tenure at Manchester United, having progressed through their esteemed youth development program. He subsequently achieved notable success, contributing 35 goals in 129 appearances for the club’s senior team.
