The Vice Chancellor of Federal University Wukari in Taraba State, Professor Jude Rebo, has assured off-campus students that the university administration is dedicated to ensuring their safety by implementing appropriate security measures.

During the enrollment of new students for the upcoming academic year in Wukari, the Vice Chancellor raised concerns about the shortage of on-campus housing, leading to a significant number of students living off-campus. The Vice Chancellor was represented by the ”eputy Vice Chancellor (Academics), Professor Banake Elisha Sambo.

The vice chancellor expressed regret over the security risks faced by off-campus students. He emphasized the university’s commitment to maintaining regular patrols of all off-campus housing to safeguard the well-being of its students.

The university administration is actively working to address the need for additional on-campus housing for students. In the meantime, regular communication is maintained with the owners of private off-campus hostels to ensure the safety and well-being of students residing in those facilities, He noted.

Professor Rebo further disclosed that the university is seeking the assistance of the North-East Development Commission to resolve the pressing issue of inadequate hostel accommodations faced by the institution.

He added that 9,151 candidates submitted applications for admission to the university, out of which only 3,080 were granted admission.
