Idris Elba is poised to take on the role of Okonkwo in an upcoming television adaptation of Chinua Achebe’s seminal work, ‘Things Fall Apart,’ which will be produced by David Oyelowo’s A24.

Currently, the project is in its early stages, with no writer or streaming service confirmed at this time. ‘Things Fall Apart’ marks the debut novel of Nigerian author Chinua Achebe, first released in 1958. The narrative explores the dynamics of pre-colonial life in Igboland, a region in present-day southeastern Nigeria, alongside the arrival of European missionaries and colonial powers in the late 19th century.

The story centers on Okonkwo, a prominent figure in the fictional Igbo clan of Umuofia, known for his prowess as a warrior and a champion wrestler.

Regarded as a landmark in Anglophone African literature, ‘Things Fall Apart’ has significantly influenced the perception of African literature in Western contexts. It is often considered the quintessential modern African novel and is widely studied in Nigeria and across the continent.
