Two attorneys have introduced an artificial intelligence platform called Case Radar, aimed at simplifying legal practice in Nigeria. Agbo Obinnaya, one of the co-founders, shared insights with PREMIUM TIMES during the launch event in Abuja on Friday, explaining that his motivation for creating this tool stemmed from the challenges he faced while conducting legal research during his studies at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Akwa.

"It became increasingly challenging after I became a lawyer in 2022. After experiencing these difficulties firsthand, I conducted a survey involving over 218 individuals and discovered that I was not alone in facing these issues," he stated.

He mentioned that the feedback gathered from the survey helped refine his vision for the solutions the platform could provide. The AI tool offers various services, including legal advice, legal research, summaries of case laws, and facilitating connections between lawyers and clients seeking representation for court-related matters.

Mr. Obinnaya emphasized that the platform significantly streamlines legal practice and enhances access to legal information and resources, "We are providing the public with access to legal knowledge and services, enabling them to better understand legal matters and easily connect with lawyers," he added.

Established with the goal of making legal knowledge more accessible and optimizing legal processes, Mr. Obinnaya emphasized that the practice of law in Nigeria and throughout the continent could be significantly simplified, thereby improving the criminal justice system through the application of generative AI technology.

“The Case Radar aims to enhance efficiency, reduce expenses, and deliver precise legal insights at the touch of a button. We are committed to transforming the legal profession for the contemporary era,” he stated.

He further remarked, “Our platform is not solely focused on increasing access to legal services; it is about revolutionizing the practice of law.

“We are expanding the limits of what can be achieved in the legal technology sector, and the feedback we have received thus far is merely the beginning.”

Feedback from attendees

Several attorneys present at the event shared with this publication that the AI tool will assist them in litigation and various other practice areas.

Chisom Chukwu, a lawyer based in Abuja, expressed that she has always found legal research for her cases to be a daunting task.

“However, with this digital solution and the features introduced by the developers, I am confident that those challenges will be a thing of the past. I will now be able to draft legal documents with ease,” she noted.

Another attorney, Emmanuel Ebuka, mentioned that individuals who are enthusiastic about the latest advancements in the legal field will find the application particularly beneficial.

“It is a resource that will elevate the more routine aspects of our work to new heights,” he stated.

There has been a notable increase in the adoption of technological solutions within legal practice in Nigeria, some of which have also aided individuals without formal legal training in comprehending the law and the nation’s legal framework.

Experts anticipate that artificial intelligence will gradually transform the legal landscape, which remains predominantly analogue in nature.
