The Brazilian is in the process of recovering from a hamstring injury and will miss Liverpool’s English League Cup third round match against West Ham on Wednesday.
Caoimhin Kelleher, the backup goalkeeper, stepped in for Alisson during the 3-0 victory over Bournemouth on Saturday and is expected to continue in that role against West Ham.
“Alisson is making progress, but this match is likely coming a bit too soon for him. We are aiming for the weekend fixture against Wolves, although it will be a close call,” Slot remarked. “He won’t be available for tomorrow’s match, so Caoimh will take the goalkeeping duties.”
Additionally, Italian forward Federico Chiesa may be in line for his first start with Liverpool against West Ham. Slot noted that the summer signing is still working towards full fitness.
“I don’t believe he can manage a full 90 minutes yet, as he has only played a maximum of 25 minutes in the last several months,” he explained. “However, we feel he is ready to start.”
