The Rector Cares Foundation has announced the launch of an essay competition aimed at inspiring Lagos secondary school students to explore innovative solutions to the pressing global issue of water scarcity and sanitation. The contest, open to students in SS1 and SS2, encourages participants to submit essays on the theme "The Critical Role of WASH in Promoting Sustainable Development in Lagos."

Established to address the growing challenges of water scarcity and sanitation, the Rector Cares Foundation has a proven track record of providing innovative water solutions to communities across Nigeria. Through its water projects, the Foundation has positively impacted over 100,000 individuals in states such as Lagos, Abia, Imo, and Enugu by providing access to clean water. Additionally, the Foundation's 'Nkuzi STEM' program has been successfully implemented in educational institutions, fostering STEM education and innovation.

The essay competition offers students a unique opportunity to showcase their critical thinking skills and propose practical solutions for ensuring a sustainable water future in Lagos. Participants will have the chance to delve into the importance of WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) and its impact on sustainable development.

The essay competition winner will receive a cash prize of five hundred thousand naira and additional prizes.

Speaking on the essay competition initiative, Onyedikachi Erete, the founder of Rector Cares Foundation said, “Empowering the next generation to think critically about water scarcity and sanitation is crucial for the sustainable development of Lagos and Nigeria as a whole. We believe that by engaging young minds, we are investing in future leaders who will champion innovative solutions for the water challenges we face today.”

The competition will run from October 1, 2024, to October 31, 2024.
