The federal government has launched a new website that enables users to convert their petrol vehicles to compressed natural gas (CNG) and offers a pay-later option for the associated conversion expenses.

This announcement was made by the National Orientation Agency (NOA) through its official X account on Tuesday.

The statement highlighted that the payment options allow drivers to convert their vehicles immediately and defer payment through manageable monthly instalments at competitive rates.

“Transitioning to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is now more convenient than ever. With flexible payment plans designed to accommodate your financial situation, moving from petrol to CNG has become easier and more cost-effective. These payment options enable you to convert your vehicle now and pay later with affordable monthly instalments at competitive rates.

“With a straightforward online application and a swift approval process, you will receive assistance throughout the entire journey to ensure a seamless experience.

“Visit: gocng.ng to begin,” the statement noted in part.

The Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGi) aims to encourage the use of renewable energy in transportation following the removal of the fuel subsidy. Since its inception, the federal government, in partnership with local authorities, has set up numerous conversion stations across various states, making it easier for motorists and private car owners to switch to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).

For instance, the PCNGi recently launched its Transport Fare Drop Programme in Abuja, which is designed to promote CNG as a cleaner and more economical fuel option while lowering transportation costs.

As part of this initiative, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was established between the PCNGi and the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) to convert vehicles on the Abuja-Itakpe Station to Adavi route to CNG, aiming for a fare reduction of 30-40%.

An agreement has been established with the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) to execute the Nigerian Police CNG Conversion Programme, which is dedicated to training police cadets in the management of strategic CNG conversion centers established by the NPTF.

Starting on October 1st, 2024, PCNGi will commence the distribution of 2,000 CNG-powered tricycles to young individuals in the transportation sector throughout Nigeria.

This initiative is designed to provide 2,000 CNG-powered tricycles to youths in the transportation industry nationwide, as part of a broader strategy to mitigate increasing transportation costs and encourage more sustainable and affordable mobility solutions.

The distribution of these tricycles is a joint initiative between PCNGi and the Ministry of Youths, aimed at creating employment opportunities for young Nigerians while promoting both environmental sustainability and economic growth.
