IBM unveiled its latest artificial intelligence models designed for businesses on Monday, aiming to leverage the increasing adoption of generative AI technology among enterprises.

The "Granite 3.0" models will be released as open-source, consistent with previous iterations in IBM's Granite AI model series. This strategy contrasts with competitors like Microsoft, which impose fees for access to their models.

Additionally, IBM provides a subscription-based tool named Watsonx, which facilitates the operation of customized models within data centers.

Starting Monday, several versions of the new Granite models will be accessible for commercial use on the Watsonx platform. A selection of these models will also be integrated into Nvidia's suite of software tools, allowing businesses to implement AI models effectively.

According to Dario Gil, IBM's director of research, the new Granite models were developed using Nvidia's H100 graphics processing units (GPUs), a leader in AI chip technology.
