The Blackwell chips were introduced in March, with initial plans for shipment in the second quarter. However, delays have arisen, potentially impacting major clients such as Meta Platforms (META), Alphabet's Google (GOOG), and Microsoft (MSFT).
"We encountered a design flaw in Blackwell," Huang stated. "While it was operational, the flaw resulted in a low yield. This was entirely Nvidia's responsibility."
Media reports indicated that the production delays had strained relations between Nvidia and TSMC, but Huang characterized those claims as "fake news."
He elaborated, "To make a Blackwell computer operational, we designed seven different types of chips from the ground up, all of which needed to enter production simultaneously."
Huang praised TSMC's role, saying, "They assisted us in overcoming the yield challenges and helped us resume Blackwell manufacturing at an impressive pace."
The Blackwell chips integrate two squares of silicon, which are significantly larger than those used in Nvidia's previous models, resulting in a component that is 30 times faster for tasks such as processing chatbot queries.
During a recent Goldman Sachs conference, Huang indicated that the chips are now expected to ship in the fourth quarter.
On Wednesday, Huang was in Denmark to unveil a new supercomputer named Gefion, which features 1,528 graphic processing units (GPUs) and was developed in collaboration with the Novo Nordisk Foundation, Denmark's Export and Investment Fund, and Nvidia.
