Davido expresses concern that his show in Nigeria may be canceled due to his remarks about the economy.
Afrobeats artist Davido has suggested that his highly anticipated December concert in Nigeria may face cancellation due to his controversial comments regarding the nation's economy.
The singer garnered attention after his appearance on the American podcast Big Homies House, where he cautioned Americans against moving to Africa, specifically Nigeria.
Davido characterized the country's economy as being in "shambles," a remark that triggered significant backlash from Nigerians both domestically and internationally.
Notable individuals such as Joe Igbokwe and Reno Omokri openly condemned his statements, accusing the musician of damaging Nigeria's reputation on a global scale.
In response to the criticism, Davido defended his stance, asserting that entertainers serve as the country's "real ambassadors." He expressed his thoughts on his X account, stating, "Yall mad cus we the real ambassadors!"
In light of the ongoing controversy, Davido disclosed that there are threats to cancel his performance in Lagos as a consequence of his interview.
“Dem say dem go cancel my show cus of my interview … loooool I don’t have to perform in Nigeria,” he tweeted.
