Kwara State University has announced the commencement of academic sessions at its Osi and Ilesha Baruba campuses. This information was shared by the university's spokesperson, Mansurat Amuda-Kannike, in a statement released on Sunday.

Amuda-Kannike indicated that this development is a result of the state government's significant investment in infrastructure at both campuses, which are situated in the southern and northern senatorial districts of the state.

The Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Mary Arinde, informed the media on Saturday that construction at the Osi campus is nearing completion, with 98 percent of the work finished, allowing students to fully resume for the 2024/2025 academic session.

She noted that students enrolled in the Department of Fine and Applied Arts, part of the new Faculty of Environmental Sciences, will commence classes in Osi on Monday, while those in the Faculty of Agriculture at the Ilesha Baruba campus will start in January.

During an inspection visit to Osi, Arinde, accompanied by the Head of Osi Campus, Binta Sulyman, and the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, expressed her approval of the construction quality.

Arinde remarked, "The campus buildings reflect a job well done, with superb quality. We are now at the practical stage of completion, having achieved over 98 percent of the work." She added that the final touches are being applied, with ongoing efforts to enhance the surrounding environment, including the road network.

Our team consists of skilled engineers and seasoned consultants who are performing admirably on this project. They have been awaiting the cessation of rainfall before commencing work on the road networks. Now, they are prepared to apply asphalt to the roads, ensuring that every area will be interlocked for an aesthetically pleasing finish.

Mrs. Sulyman noted that various facilities, including offices, studios, conference rooms, lecture rooms, lecture theatres, and an auditorium with a seating capacity of 1,500 to 2,000, are either completed or nearing completion.

She also highlighted additional amenities that are ready for use, such as parking areas, retail spaces, boreholes, electricity transformers, solar-powered street lights, a recreational/common room for students, a CBT computer center, and an art gallery.

“Staff and students from the Fine and Applied Arts department are already on-site and have secured accommodations. We anticipate starting lectures here next week, with more departments expected to join us by January,” she stated.

She mentioned that other academic programs set to commence in January include Estate Management, Urban and Regional Development, Geography, Architecture, Quantity Surveying, and Building.
