Chelsea Football Club announced on Tuesday that forward Mykhailo Mudryk has tested positive for a banned substance, leading to his provisional suspension. The club received notification from the Football Association regarding an "adverse finding" in a urine sample submitted by the 23-year-old winger.

In an official statement, Chelsea confirmed that the FA had reached out to Mudryk about the results of a routine urine test. The club emphasized their commitment to the FA's testing program, noting that all players, including Mudryk, undergo regular testing.

Mudryk has firmly stated that he has never intentionally used any prohibited substances and expressed his intention to collaborate with the appropriate authorities to determine the cause of the adverse finding.

In a message shared on his Instagram account, Mudryk expressed his shock at the notification, asserting, "I have never knowingly used any banned substances or violated any rules, and I am working closely with my team to investigate how this could have occurred. I am confident that I have done nothing wrong and remain optimistic about returning to the field soon. Due to the confidentiality of the process, I cannot provide further details at this time, but I will update everyone as soon as possible."

Athletes are cautioned on the UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) website that a four-year ban may be imposed if a banned substance is found to have been taken intentionally. However, if the violation involves a specified substance or a contaminated product, and the athlete can prove minimal fault, the penalty may range from a two-year ban to a reprimand, depending on the circumstances.

Mudryk has participated in 15 matches for Chelsea this season, with his most recent appearance occurring during a 2-0 victory against German team Heidenheim in the Conference League on November 28, where he netted his third goal of the season.

He has been absent from the squad in the last five matches across all competitions. Mudryk transferred to Chelsea from Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2023 for a reported fee of £88.5 million ($112 million). Enzo Maresca’s team currently holds the second position in the Premier League and leads the Conference League standings.
