Nigerian rapper OG Maco, whose real name was Benedict Ihesiba Jr., has passed away at the age of 32, just weeks after being hospitalized.

His family shared the heartbreaking news on Instagram on December 27, highlighting his strength, creativity, and passion for life. “As we mourn this profound loss, we also honor the remarkable life he led,” they stated.

On December 16, Maco's family disclosed that he was in critical condition at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. His manager indicated that he was on life support and undergoing various tests, calling on fans to pray for his recovery.

OG Maco gained prominence with his 2014 single "U Guessed It" and was a significant figure at Quality Control, collaborating with notable artists such as Diplo and Migos, and earning a place in XXL’s 2015 Freshman Class.

Despite facing personal challenges, including a serious car accident in 2016 and a debilitating skin condition in 2019, his family expressed that his legacy “will forever be remembered in our hearts.”
