The 24-year-old Canadian forward is currently in his fifth season with Lille, leading the league with 11 goals in 15 matches. His contract expires at the end of June, and he has reportedly been presented with a two-year extension.
“As the president (Olivier Létang) said several times, discussions are going on. We’re talking but no decision has been reached,” David told regional newspaper La Voix du Nord on Monday in an interview. “The door is never closed. It’s 50-50.”
This season, David has scored a total of 17 goals, which includes four in the Champions League and two during the qualifying rounds, bringing his overall tally to 101 since his arrival in 2020.
He is among the most coveted strikers in Europe, and Lille risks losing him without compensation if he does not agree to a new contract. Nevertheless, Létang has previously indicated that David will not be sold during the January transfer window.
Currently, Lille sits in fourth place in the league and will face struggling Nantes on Saturday as Ligue 1 resumes after the winter break.
