Oluwafemi Abolade Leye, professionally recognized as Femi Leye, is a multifaceted Nigerian artist excelling as a guitarist, singer, songwriter, record producer, and composer. His musical style blends African ethnic sounds with Contemporary Soul, Jazz, Rhythm and Blues, Funk, and Yoruba Music.In 2011, Femi produced his inaugural track, "Irawo Owuro," translating to "Morning Star." This piece showcases contemporary jazz infused with rich African sound elements.
He made his official debut in 2014 with the single "Smile," which garnered significant airplay on major radio stations. Following this, he released his first studio album, "Ekaabo," in August 2015, meaning "Welcome" in Yoruba. This album features ten tracks that merge African influences with Contemporary Jazz and Funk.
In 2015, Femi collaborated with Chopstix to produce a joint project titled "Ibukun."
In September 2017, he launched "Ekaabo Live," an album recorded during The Ekaabo Concert held at the Lagoon Restaurant in Victoria Island, Lagos, on June 3, 2017.
In June 2017, alongside his friend Adekunle Gold, he formed the band The 79th Element, which has toured extensively across Africa, Europe, and the United States.
Femi performed at the 2018 AMVCA Awards and delivered a speech at TEDxLagos.
In October 2018, he released "The Highlife EP," a compilation of original highlife songs that he wrote, produced, and performed. This project was later featured as the soundtrack for Ndanitv's "Skinny Girl in Transit."
In July 2019, he launched his second studio album, "Femi Leye The Album," which received critical acclaim. He performed in front of a 2,500-strong audience at the Sky Theatre in Minnesota, USA, opening for Congolese artist Fally Ipupa. Additionally, he held his first headline concert at Norwood Club in New York, selling out tickets a day prior to the event.
In September 2019, he collaborated with Reekado Banks on the hit track "RORA," including an acoustic version of the song.
Femi Leye also performed at the 2020 AMVCA Nominees and sponsors party.
In January 2021, he launched "Pendulum: The EP," which received critical acclaim. This project blends elements of Lofi, Jazz, Afrobeat, and Hip-hop, with Femi Leye serving as the producer for the entire work. He collaborated with StageIt, a virtual concert platform based in Los Angeles, California, along with StreamAfrica, to host a virtual concert featuring live music and art, alongside his wife, Iniabasi Leye. The couple also made an appearance on the Times Square Billboard in New York City, USA. This was followed by the release of "Pendulum Vol 2" on June 25, 2021.
