Renowned gospel artist Nathaniel Bassey has received an invitation to the United States on January 20 to perform at the inaugural prayer breakfast for President-elect Donald Trump.

The event is scheduled to take place in Washington, DC.

Bassey is distinguished as the sole Nigerian and African artist featured in the lineup.

The US presidential inaugural prayer breakfast is a non-political, faith-oriented gathering held every four years prior to the inauguration of a new administration. It emphasizes prayer and worship as spiritual support for the president and the government.

The 44-year-old artist announced his invitation on Instagram, sharing the event poster with the message, “Let’s raise a sound in America. See you January 20, 2025.”

Reverend Merrie Turner is set to host the event at the prestigious Waldorf Astoria Presidential Ballroom, with additional speakers including Pastor Mario Bramick and Avelda King.

Bassey, known for initiating the Hallelujah Challenge—a worship concert streamed annually on social media that connects millions of worshippers globally—has gained international acclaim.

In 2024, Kathy Sheehan, the 75th Mayor of Albany, New York, honored Bassey by declaring October 6 as “Pastor Nathaniel Bassey Day.”

The Akwa Ibom-born gospel artist is celebrated for his worship songs such as “Imela,” “Onise Iyanu,” and “Olowogbogboro.” His musical repertoire encompasses various genres, including jazz, hymns, and medleys, solidifying his status as one of Nigeria’s most esteemed gospel ministers.
