Dr. Salako emphasized that fistula is not merely a medical concern but also a significant social and psychological issue.
“Fistula is a challenging problem in Nigeria as the nation is the country with the highest burden of Fistula in the World. We have about 12,000 cases annually.
“Fistula is not only a medical problem, but a social and psychological problem as some people with this condition commit suicide as a result of it,” he said
He also mentioned that the Federal Government has initiated a program for free fistula treatment, currently offering social support and rehabilitation to nearly 1,700 individuals, with expectations for this number to increase.

Governor Monday Okpebholo, who represented the Edo State delegation at the signing event, expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for positively transforming the narrative of Edo State.
