The advancements made by DeepSeek exemplify the rise of Chinese companies in the field of artificial intelligence (AI), a spokesperson for China’s parliament stated on Tuesday.

Lou Qinjian, responding to questions about China’s progress in AI, praised the achievements of DeepSeek’s young team as “commendable.” He emphasized that the company’s open-source approach has helped promote the global adoption of AI technology, showcasing “Chinese wisdom” on the world stage.

“The success of companies like DeepSeek reflects the innovation and inclusiveness of China’s technological development,” Lou added.

DeepSeek, an AI startup based in Hangzhou, has garnered significant attention in China and abroad after releasing AI models that rival those of U.S. competitors like OpenAI at a fraction of the cost. While some countries, including South Korea and Italy, have removed DeepSeek’s chatbot from their app stores over privacy concerns, the company has been widely embraced in China. Local governments and tech firms have integrated its technology into their systems, further solidifying its domestic influence.

According to a Reuters report last month, DeepSeek is accelerating the development of its next-generation model, set to succeed the R1 released in January.
