In a statement released on Tuesday, the TCN confirmed that the new peak generation was successfully transmitted, surpassing the previous record of 5,543.20 MW set on February 14, 2025, by 170.40 MW. The record was achieved at 9:30 PM on March 4, 2025.
While this new peak is 88 MW lower than the all-time high of 5,801.60 MW recorded on March 1, 2021, the TCN emphasized that it remains a noteworthy accomplishment. Additionally, the maximum daily energy generated also reached a historic high of 125,542.06 megawatt-hours (MWh), exceeding the previous record of 125,159.48 MWh set on February 14, 2025, by 382.58 MWh.
The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, had previously pledged to increase power generation to 6,000 MW by December 2024. However, this target was not met due to challenges such as vandalism, grid collapses, and inadequate power infrastructure.
The TCN’s latest achievement highlights progress in Nigeria’s power sector, despite ongoing obstacles. The company remains committed to improving electricity generation and transmission to meet the nation’s growing energy demands.
