President Bola Tinubu has officially assured automatic job placement for all 774 individuals involved in the newly initiated National Health Fellows Programme, contingent upon their successful completion of the one-year program. He praised the participants, highlighting their crucial role in advancing Nigeria's objective of achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) by 2027.

“You are hired,” President Tinubu declared during the official launch of the programme at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja on Thursday.

The National Health Fellows Programme, approved by President Tinubu in April 2024, is a key component of his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, designed to enhance accountability, efficiency, and service delivery within Nigeria’s healthcare system.

The fellows, who commenced their training on February 27, 2025, under the Sector Wide Approach coordination office, will dedicate the next year to monitoring and evaluating Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across all 774 local government areas in Nigeria.

President Tinubu’s announcement followed an appeal by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Pate, for federal, state, and local governments to integrate the fellows into the national workforce to accelerate progress toward achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in Nigeria.

In his remarks, President Tinubu commended the fellows as pioneers of a transformative era in primary healthcare delivery. Prof. Pate further underscored their critical role in supporting the Federal Government’s strategic plan to expand the number of PHCs from 8,809 to 17,618 by 2027, thereby strengthening the nation’s healthcare infrastructure.
