After more than a decade of tension, respected Nollywood actors Segun Arinze and Emeka Ike have finally put an end to their long-standing feud. The reconciliation brings closure to a leadership dispute within the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) that dates back to 2009.
The rift between the two stars stemmed from the AGN presidential election, which saw Segun Arinze emerge victorious. Displeased with the outcome, Emeka Ike took the matter to court in 2010, seeking to nullify the results and contest the legitimacy of Arinze’s presidency.
However, in a recent interview with QED.ng’s Olumide Iyanda, Arinze revealed that the bitter chapter is now firmly in the past. According to him, the tension was never deeply personal but rather political.
“Emeka Ike is a fine actor. We still talk and laugh over those things. The conflict ended naturally. We weren’t quarrelling. It was just about the AGN position. That’s why I left the position,” Arinze said.
Reflecting on the lessons learned and the value of peace, he continued:
“What are we having enemies for? Travel light. How long do you have to live in the world that you want to carry on your shoulders? What do I need that animosity for? We are growing old. He is my friend, and I have asked him to go for lunch or dinner whenever he is around.”
This heartfelt reconciliation not only marks a new chapter for the two actors but also serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of forgiveness, humility, and moving on. As veteran figures in Nollywood, their decision to set aside differences is already being applauded by fans and industry stakeholders alike.
