Key Highlights and Performance Analysis of the 2025 UTME Results
The released 2025 UTME results have revealed a concerning trend in the overall performance of candidates across the country. Out of the total of 1,955,069 candidates who participated in the examination, only 412,415 candidates (21.5%) achieved a score above 200, which is widely considered the minimum benchmark for university admission in Nigeria. This significant statistic indicates that approximately 79% of the candidates scored below this crucial threshold.
A more detailed breakdown of the candidates' performance reveals the following distribution of scores:
- 4,756 candidates scored 320 and above
- 7,658 candidates scored between 300–319
- 73,441 candidates scored between 250–299
- 334,560 candidates scored between 200–249
- 983,187 candidates scored between 160–199
- 488,197 candidates scored between 140–159
JAMB also disclosed that a total of 40,247 underage candidates were granted special permission to participate in the 2025 UTME to showcase exceptional academic potential. However, only 467 (1.16%) of these candidates met JAMB's criteria for exceptional performance.
Furthermore, the Board reported that 97 candidates were found to have engaged in examination infractions, and an additional 2,157 candidates are currently under investigation for suspected malpractice during the examination. In addition, a significant number of 71,701 candidates were absent from the examination, with many of these absences attributed to unresolved biometric verification issues.
JAMB has assured candidates with outstanding biometric concerns that their cases are being investigated. If cleared, these candidates will be rescheduled to take the UTME at approved examination centres at a later date.
