Instead of facing demolition, Goodison Park will now host Women's Super League matches, providing a new iconic venue for Everton Women, who will be moving from their current nearby home at Walton Hall Park.
A Historic Ground for a Growing Game
"This move is a testament to where the women’s game is right now and, more importantly, where it is heading," said Everton captain Megan Finnigan. "Goodison is a magical stadium with a deep heritage and close ties to the local community. Leading the team out for that first home match of next season will be nothing short of a career highlight — and the prospect of what Everton Women can become with such an iconic ground to call our home is hugely exciting."
The decision to repurpose Goodison Park for the women's team follows a review of the Goodison Legacy project, which was initially launched in 2020. This review was conducted by the Friedkin Group following their acquisition of the club in December.
A Future for Goodison Beyond the Men's Team
In addition to hosting Women's Super League fixtures, Goodison Park will also stage some of Everton's academy matches. The club has also announced plans for a program of stadium upgrades in preparation for the new season, ensuring the historic ground remains a suitable venue for top-level football.
Goodison Park has been the cherished home of Everton's men's team since 1892, holding a significant place in the club's history and the hearts of its supporters. The men's team is set to play its final match at the stadium on Sunday against Southampton, marking the end of an era before the women's team begins its own chapter at the iconic ground next season. This move ensures that Goodison Park will continue to play a vital role in the Everton community and the broader landscape of English football.
