The Nigerian equities market witnessed a positive trading session on Tuesday, May 13th, 2025, as the All Share Index (ASI) closed in the green. The ASI rose by a notable 501.13 points, settling at 108,762.60.

This upward movement represents a 0.46% increase compared to the previous trading day's closing figure of 108,261.47. The positive sentiment was further supported by an increase in the volume of shares traded.

Daily trading volume saw a significant jump to 498.4 million shares, marking a 20.2% rise compared to the 414.3 million shares that exchanged hands on Monday. Consequently, market capitalization also expanded, reaching N68.3 trillion across 14,916 deals, up from the N68.04 trillion recorded in the previous session.

Top Movers: Gains Led by CHELLARAM and OANDO

Leading the pack of gainers were CHELLARAM and OANDO, both recording a substantial 10.00% appreciation in their stock prices. TRANSCORP, BETAGLAS, and CAVERTON also saw significant gains, closing up by 9.99%, 9.96%, and 9.85% respectively.

Conversely, HMCALL and ACADEMY were the top losers, declining by 9.85% and 7.33% respectively.

Volume and Value Leaders: TANTALIZER and GTCO Dominate

In terms of trading activity, TANTALIZER emerged as the volume leader with an impressive 57.8 million shares traded. ACCESSCORP followed closely with a solid 36.7 million shares. GTCO also attracted strong investor interest, with 31.8 million shares changing hands. FIDELITYBK and NB recorded notable volumes as well, trading 23.3 million and 21.03 million shares respectively.

Turning to the value of trades, GTCO topped the chart with transactions worth N2.1 billion. NB followed with a turnover of N1.07 billion. ZENITHBANK recorded trades valued at N999.5 million, while ACCESSCORP posted N784.4 million. ETERNA rounded out the top value trades at N780.9 million.

SWOOTs and FUGAZ Performance: Mixed Movements

Among the SWOOTs (Stocks Worth Over One Trillion), FIDELITYBK led with a gain of 7.14%, while INTBREW advanced by 1.10%.

The FUGAZ banking group exhibited mixed performance. GTCO inched up by 0.07%, and UBA posted a modest rise of 0.14%. On the other hand, FBNH (FIRSTHOLDCO) experienced a decline of 3.28%, ZENITHBANK slipped by 1.64%, and UBA dipped by 0.29%. Notably, ACCESSCORP recorded no price movement.

Market Outlook: Eyes on the 109,000 Resistance

The current market sentiment suggests a gradual attempt by the All-Share Index to reclaim the 109,000 level, a threshold it fell below in the preceding week. Analysts believe that sustained positive momentum, particularly among mid- and large-cap stocks, could provide the necessary impetus to propel the index further into positive territory in the upcoming trading sessions.
