Olamide Aderibigbe, a remarkable 16-year-old candidate in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), has demonstrated exceptional academic prowess, achieving an outstanding score of 98 in Mathematics.

A student of Starville International School, Jabi, Abuja, Aderibigbe also showcased strong performance in other subjects, scoring 86 in Physics, 68 in English, and 84 in Economics.

The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Ishaq Oloyede, provided a detailed analysis of the 2025 UTME statistics, revealing that out of the over 1.9 million candidates who participated, 12,414 scored 300 and above. Notably, only 4,756 candidates achieved scores of 320 and above.

This year's results indicate an improvement compared to the 2024 UTME, where only 8,000 candidates, representing a mere 0.5 percent of the 1.9 million test-takers, scored above 300 points.

The 2025 UTME results were officially released to the public on Friday, revealing that over 1.5 million candidates scored below 200, which is generally considered the average benchmark. The UTME, with a total possible score of 400, assesses candidates across four core subjects, with the Use of English being compulsory and candidates selecting three other subjects relevant to their chosen field of study.

Reacting to the performance data, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, attributed the results to the effectiveness of ongoing government initiatives aimed at combating examination malpractice.

Speaking with a correspondent on Saturday, Olamide’s father, Niran Aderibigbe, expressed profound gratitude for his son's exceptional performance. He shared Olamide's aspirations to pursue Architecture at either Covenant University or the University of Ibadan. Olamide's remarkable achievement in Mathematics highlights the potential and dedication of young Nigerian students and serves as an inspiring example for his peers.
