The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has issued a strong public warning concerning the activities of Property World Africa Network (PWAN MAX), cautioning Nigerians against investing with the entity. The Commission has explicitly stated that PWAN/PWAN MAX is not registered to operate within Nigeria's capital market in any capacity, raising significant red flags about the legitimacy of its investment solicitations.

In a public notice disseminated on Tuesday through its official social media channels, the SEC disclosed that its investigations into PWAN's operations have revealed characteristics consistent with a fraudulent Ponzi scheme. The regulatory body highlighted key warning signs, including the promise of unusually high investment returns and the company's reported failure to honour withdrawal requests from its subscribers.

"The Commission hereby informs the public that PWAN/PWAN MAX are NOT REGISTERED by the Commission either to solicit investments from the public or operate in any other capacity within the Nigerian capital market," the SEC's statement emphatically declared.

This decisive warning from the SEC comes amidst increasing concerns regarding the proliferation of unregulated entities that prey on unsuspecting investors within Nigeria's financial landscape. The Commission underscored the inherent risks associated with investing in platforms that have not undergone regulatory scrutiny and are not registered with the appropriate authorities. "The public is strongly advised to be wary about investing with PWAN/PWAN MAX, as any person who places such investment with these entities does so at his/her own risk," the SEC cautioned, emphasizing the critical need for investor vigilance.

To empower potential investors with the necessary tools for due diligence, the SEC urged them to proactively verify the registration status of any investment platform before committing their funds. The Commission directed the public to its dedicated online portal, accessible at www.sec.gov.ng/cmos, for this crucial verification process. "The Commission similarly reminds potential investors of the need to VERIFY the registration status of investment platforms via the Commission’s dedicated portal," the statement reiterated, underscoring the importance of transparency and regulatory compliance in financial dealings.

This latest action by the SEC aligns with its ongoing efforts to clamp down on the burgeoning number of unregistered and fraudulent investment schemes operating within Nigeria. The Commission has consistently called upon the public to exercise extreme caution and to conduct thorough investigations before engaging with any entity that promises unrealistically high returns on investment.

The case of PWAN/PWAN MAX serves as a stark and timely reminder of the inherent dangers posed by unregulated financial operations and the vital role that regulatory oversight plays in safeguarding the interests of investors and maintaining the integrity of the capital market.

As the SEC continues its diligent monitoring of entities operating within Nigeria’s financial markets, its commitment to protecting the public from financial fraud remains unwavering. "Investors are urged to heed the Commission’s warning and avoid transacting with PWAN/PWAN MAX to protect their financial interests," the SEC concluded, reinforcing the gravity of the situation and the need for immediate public compliance.
