The artist, celebrated for his earlier hit "Ninja Bike," explained that his extensive musical career as an Afrobeats artist, coupled with his decade-long dedication to activism within Nigeria's music copyright sector, has significantly shaped his transition into the "YoungOG" persona. He describes this new brand as a true embodiment of the dynamic Afrobeats culture.
"You’ll know and appreciate this fully when you listen to my new single 'Ebube' and my other forthcoming records," YoungOG affirmed, hinting at the sonic direction of his new artistic phase.
YoungOG further revealed that his fresh sound and brand identity have been meticulously crafted over the past few years with the intention of resonating strongly with Gen Z and Gen Alpha audiences.
"I've noticed that I’ve consistently been ahead of the curve in the Afrobeats scene, and while I don't intend to boast, it's evident when you examine my musical trajectory. This is precisely why my sound consistently feels fresh and innovative," YoungOG noted.
He elaborated on the rationale behind the name change: "Rebranding from Asha Gangali to YoungOG became necessary due to the evolving demographics that now predominantly consume the music and drive the culture. My new sound is best described as 'Eclectic,' and I'm genuinely excited about this new dispensation. The metamorphosis from Gangali to YoungOG began in 2023, but the comprehensive rebranding process has been quite demanding, both creatively and administratively."
Despite this significant artistic shift, YoungOG assured that he remains deeply committed to his crucial role within Nigeria's music copyright segment. Having previously served as the National Treasurer of the Performing Musicians Employers Association of Nigeria (PMAN) and as a member of the Board of Directors at the Musical Copyright Society of Nigeria (MCSN), this remains a key area of focus.
"I will continue to vehemently advocate for transparency, accountability, and strict adherence to global standards within our music institutions, which form the essential administrative pillars for copyright protection and the effective management of music royalties," YoungOG asserted.
