The 72-year-old icon, whose journey in filmmaking began in 1964, has been an influential figure in the Yoruba film industry, consistently producing and directing a vast array of movies. Salami’s illustrious career kicked off with the renowned Young Concert Party group, under the leadership of Ojo Ladipo. Following Ladipo’s passing, Salami took the reins, continuing the group’s legacy.
His cinematic debut was in “Ajani Ogun,” widely recognized as the first-ever Yoruba film. He later ventured into film production, with his first movie, “Ogun Ajaye,” released in 1985.
According to his son, Femi Adebayo, also a prominent actor, the new film “Her Excellency” is scheduled to premiere on June 29, 2025, and will be available in cinemas nationwide from July 4, 2025.
Femi Adebayo expressed immense pride and gratitude for his father’s enduring legacy. In a heartfelt message, he said, “Today, I stand with immense pride, gratitude, and joy as I celebrate my father—my mentor, my hero – @adebayo.salami as he marks 60 years of unwavering excellence in filmmaking.”
He further highlighted the significance of the new film as a tribute to his father's dedication: “What better way to honour this incredible milestone than with the release of his latest masterpiece: Her Excellency — a film that reflects not just his artistry, but the depth of his passion and dedication to this craft.”
Femi Adebayo emphasized that this milestone is an inspiration for all aspiring creatives: “This moment isn’t just for him, it’s for every dreamer, every creative, every artist who dares to build, to sacrifice, to endure. Daddy, your legacy lights the path for generations. I remain forever grateful to call you father and teacher.”
