In a major step toward expanding its footprint in West Africa’s largest consumer market, Akabanga Lagos has acquired full ownership of Akabanga 4U Limited, becoming the sole distributor of Akabanga Chili Oil in Nigeria.

The acquisition marks a significant moment for the Rwandan-born brand, which is known for its distinctive blend of yellow African habanero peppers, sunflower oil, and aromatic spices. Produced by Sina Gérard / Enterprise Urwibutso, Akabanga has gained popularity for its earthy heat and rich, smoky flavor, making it a cherished addition to both local and international dishes.

Expansion Backed by National Dealer Campaign

With the acquisition completed, Akabanga Lagos has wasted no time setting its sights on aggressive market expansion. A nationwide dealer mobilisation campaign is already underway, targeting coverage in all 36 states of Nigeria.

Temitope Mudabai, Founder of Akabanga Lagos, described the move as both a strategic leap and a personal milestone.

“Nigerians are known for their love of flavour-packed, spicy food, and Akabanga hits the right note with just a few drops,” she said.
“This acquisition is a dream realised. Having championed this product in Nigeria for years, we are honored to now lead its national distribution. Fondly called Rwanda’s little secret, we’re excited to help more Nigerians discover its magic.”

Available in 20ml and 100ml bottles, the chili oil is already building a reputation among culinary enthusiasts for its versatility—as a finishing drizzle, marinade base, or cooking oil in both home and commercial kitchens.

Rwandan Roots, Nigerian Future

Mr. Sina Gérard, founder of the parent brand in Rwanda, expressed strong optimism about the product’s future in the Nigerian market.

“Nigeria boasts one of the largest consumer markets in Africa and is well known for its mouthwatering and diverse gastronomy,” he said.
“We are excited to partner with Akabanga Lagos to introduce this delicious-tasting product to the market, and we are confident that our product will feel right at home here.”

Strategic Vision and Consumer Outlook

Akabanga Lagos is poised to deepen its market presence through strategic retail partnerships, restaurant collaborations, and promotional campaigns aimed at embedding the product into everyday Nigerian cooking culture.

The move reflects a broader trend of intra-African trade and culinary collaboration, particularly as consumers show increasing interest in premium, authentic African flavors.

With Nigeria’s strong affinity for spicy cuisine and an ever-growing food service industry, Akabanga’s expansion could see it becoming a kitchen staple across Nigerian homes, restaurants, and food outlets in the coming months.
