Abimbola Kazeem, popularly known as Jigan Babaoja, has shared an inspiring account of how he overcame body shaming and turned his physical disability into a source of resilience and personal strength.
Developing a Strong Mindset from Childhood
In a candid interview on Oyinmomo TV, the comic actor revealed that he had learned to build emotional resilience from an early age, despite enduring harsh mockery and name-calling due to his physical condition.
“What happened is I have taken these things off my mind. I have taken it off my mind since I was eight years old,” Jigan said. “I do not know if I have an injury on my leg. The only time I know I am living with disability is when I look into the mirror.”
According to him, this mental shift allowed him to ignore hurtful comments and focus on what he could do, rather than what others said he couldn’t.
“There Is Nothing I Cannot Do”
Jigan challenged the label of being "disabled," asserting that he is physically capable of performing various demanding activities.
“I can run. I can jump. I can play football. There is nothing I cannot do,” he said confidently. “Even when it comes to sexual intercourse, I do better than a two-legged person. I like to do all those hard things.”
His bold statement underscores a message of self-confidence and body positivity, aimed at dismantling stereotypes around physical disability.
Empowering Others Through Personal Example
Jigan, who rose to wider fame through his viral "So Mo Age Mi" challenge in 2018, used his platform to offer encouragement to others living with disabilities.
“My advice to people like me is that they should observe my life,” he said. “Before you abuse me, I would have abused myself. There is nothing anyone can say to me that would pain me. They should accept that that is how God does His thing.”
He emphasized the importance of self-acceptance and urged others not to internalize societal judgments but to find power in their individuality.
A Career Defined by Resilience and Humor
With a career spanning more than a decade, Jigan Babaoja has carved a niche for himself in the Nigerian entertainment industry through a blend of comedy, acting, and motivational messaging. His openness about living with disability has helped break barriers and inspire conversations around inclusion and mental strength.
His journey is a testament to how personal challenges can be transformed into a platform for impact, advocacy, and inspiration.
