The Trump Organization announced Monday its latest business venture: T1 Mobile, a new mobile phone service brand, marking a bold expansion of the Trump family’s business empire during Donald Trump’s presidency.

T1 Mobile will operate as a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), piggybacking on infrastructure from Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile, and will debut a patriotically branded phone plan titled the “47 Plan” — a nod to Trump serving as the 47th President of the United States.

Pricing and Offerings

The 47 Plan will cost $47.45 per month for 5G service, undercutting the big three U.S. telecom giants but remaining pricier than budget carriers like Boost Mobile and Cricket.

T1 Mobile also revealed it will launch its own smartphone in August for $499, described on the company’s website as “proudly designed and built in the United States.” However, the company has not disclosed which manufacturers or technology firms are involved in producing the device.

Strategic Diversification

The mobile venture is the latest in a series of tech and finance sector moves by the Trump family. In 2021, Donald Trump launched Trump Media and Technology Group, the parent company of Truth Social, a conservative-leaning social media platform.

In 2024, the family backed World Liberty Financial, a crypto company offering stablecoins pegged to the U.S. dollar. And in a symbolic gesture just hours before his January inauguration, Trump launched a memecoin dubbed $TRUMP.

Ethical Questions Resurface

While Trump administration officials have repeatedly downplayed concerns of potential conflicts of interest, claiming transparency around Trump’s business ventures, ethics watchdogs and congressional critics argue that such projects blur the lines between presidential duties and personal enrichment.

“T1 Mobile and other ventures give foreign and domestic interests new channels to curry favor with the President,” said a senior ethics analyst with a Washington-based nonprofit watchdog group.

The Trump Organization has not yet responded to requests for comment on the companies or individuals involved in T1 Mobile’s smartphone development, or on safeguards in place to prevent undue influence.

What’s Next?

T1 Mobile’s entry into the crowded U.S. telecom space reflects Trump’s strategy of leveraging his personal brand and political base to diversify into emerging markets. Whether the venture will thrive amid mounting scrutiny and fierce industry competition remains to be seen.

For now, T1 Mobile and the “47 Plan” signal that Trump’s presidential tenure may become one of the most commercially active in modern U.S. history.
