Visa has announced the appointment of Aminata Kane as Senior Vice President and Head of its Western and Central Africa operations, effective September 4, 2025. The move marks a significant step in the company’s strategy to deepen its footprint across Africa’s rapidly evolving digital payments landscape.

Based in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, Kane will lead Visa’s newly established sub-regional team, overseeing operations across 23 markets from key hubs in Abidjan, Accra, Kinshasa, and Lagos. Her appointment comes at a pivotal time for Visa as it accelerates efforts to expand financial inclusion and develop tailored digital solutions for underserved communities across the continent.

With over a decade of leadership experience in digital financial services and telecommunications, Kane brings a strong track record from her time at Orange Middle East and Africa. Most recently, she served as Regional CEO of Orange Money Group, overseeing the financial services operations of Orange Money and Orange Bank Africa across 17 countries. Her leadership played a central role in scaling mobile money solutions and driving financial inclusion across the region.

In addition to her corporate achievements, Kane is also widely recognized for her work in digital empowerment and inclusion. She played a leading role in launching the Orange Foundation and the Orange Digital Center in Sierra Leone — initiatives focused on building digital literacy and leadership skills among women and youth in underserved communities.

Visa’s Regional President for Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East, and Africa, Andrew Torre, expressed confidence in Kane’s ability to lead the region’s next phase of growth:

“Aminata’s wealth of experience in digital finance will be key to advancing our mission of broadening financial inclusion in Western and Central Africa. Her leadership will undoubtedly strengthen our efforts to develop inclusive and innovative payment solutions across the region.”

Kane’s career began in global finance, with early roles at Goldman Sachs and later McKinsey & Company in Paris, where she focused on financial strategy and transformation. She is an alumna of HEC Paris and MIT Sloan School of Management and has received several accolades, including recognition as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum and a spot among the Top 100 Women CEOs in Africa.

Reflecting on her new role, Kane emphasized the significance of the moment for Africa’s digital future:

“It’s a privilege to join Visa at such a crucial time for Africa’s digital economy. This is a remarkable opportunity to contribute to building a more inclusive digital payment ecosystem that unlocks the full potential of our region. I look forward to partnering with stakeholders across sectors to drive meaningful, sustainable growth.”

As Visa strengthens its position across Africa, Kane’s appointment signals a renewed commitment to inclusive innovation and a people-centered approach to digital finance.
