In a move aimed at deepening financial inclusion and simplifying access to insurance for everyday Nigerians, Leadway Assurance has entered into a strategic bancassurance partnership with Ecobank Nigeria. The collaboration was formally launched on Friday and will see both institutions working closely to provide integrated insurance offerings through Ecobank’s wide-reaching network.
With this partnership, Ecobank’s employees, customers, and small business owners will now gain direct access to a variety of Leadway’s insurance solutions—including life, health, motor, and home policies—right from within their banking experience.
According to Leadway Assurance, the initiative is designed to make insurance more accessible by embedding it within banking services that many Nigerians already rely on.
“This collaboration is about making insurance simple, accessible, and part of everyday life,” said Kikelomo Fischer, Director of Sales, Retail and Partnerships at Leadway Assurance. “By working with Ecobank and leveraging their wide network, we’re bringing financial protection closer to people, right where they are, and when they need it most.”
Fischer also described the move as a response to Nigeria’s insurance gap, stressing that the integration of services is more than operational—it’s a purposeful attempt to deliver protection to underserved populations.
Ecobank’s Head of Distribution Channels and Sales for Consumer & Commercial Banking, Adeola Ogunyemi, echoed this sentiment, noting that the partnership aligns with the bank’s ambition to serve as a comprehensive financial services hub.
“We are delighted to partner with Leadway Assurance, one of the country’s foremost insurance providers. This strategic collaboration aligns with our vision to create a one-stop hub offering robust financial services. Our customers will enjoy the convenience of accessing tailored insurance solutions alongside their banking needs,” Ogunyemi said.
The rollout of the bancassurance program will begin in select Ecobank branches across the country. Trained product champions will be stationed at these branches to guide customers through various policy options, including Group Life Cover, Personal Accident Insurance, and Term Life Insurance—products that are expected to be especially beneficial to Ecobank’s staff and growing retail base.
This partnership signals a growing trend in Nigeria’s financial services sector, where banks and insurers are increasingly working together to broaden access, enhance customer experience, and provide comprehensive financial protection under one roof.
