The latest chapter in the Predator saga is generating buzz both on the big screen and among fans eagerly awaiting a home viewing option. Predator: Badlands, the sci-fi thriller starring Elle Fanning, has been showing in theaters nationwide since November 7, and many moviegoers are already wondering how long they’ll have to wait to watch it at home.

Set in a futuristic, remote world, the film follows a young Predator, outcast from his clan, who teams up with Thia, played by Fanning, to embark on a perilous journey in search of the ultimate adversary. Directed by Dan Trachtenberg—the mind behind the Predator prequel Prey and the animated Predator: Killer of Killers—the PG-13 film continues the franchise’s legacy while exploring new storylines and futuristic settings.

When it comes to home release, major studios generally wait anywhere from a month to six weeks after a theatrical debut before offering films on digital platforms via premium video on demand (PVOD). However, Predator: Badlands was released by 20th Century Studios, a Disney subsidiary. Disney typically adheres to a 60-day theatrical window for digital streaming releases, though there are occasional exceptions, like Tron: Ares, which arrived on PVOD 53 days post-theatrical release. Following this standard schedule, fans can expect to stream or rent Predator: Badlands on January 6, 2026.

PVOD pricing usually ranges from $19.99 to $29.99 to purchase, or $14.99 to $24.99 to rent for a 48-hour period, and the film should be available on platforms such as Apple TV, Fandango at Home, Prime Video, and YouTube Movies & TV.

Box Office Performance

Currently playing in 2,080 North American theaters, Predator: Badlands earned $1.8 million for the weekend of December 5–7, bringing its domestic total to $88.2 million. Combined with international receipts of $91.8 million, the film has grossed approximately $180 million worldwide so far, on a production budget of $105 million, excluding marketing costs.

A Growing Legacy

Predator: Badlands marks the seventh installment in the Predator franchise, which began with Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Predator in 1987 and continued with Predator 2 in 1990. The series was rebooted with Predators (2010) and The Predator (2018) before Trachtenberg revitalized it with Prey in 2022. He continued to expand the universe with Predator: Killer of Killers in May 2025, leading up to this latest release.

Interestingly, while the film includes elements reminiscent of the Alien universe, particularly synthetic beings tied to the Weyland-Yutani Corporation, it does not feature the iconic Xenomorphs. The franchise also includes two official crossovers with Alien: Alien vs. Predator (2004) and Alien vs. Predator: Requiem (2007).

For fans who missed it in theaters—or want to experience the hunt from the comfort of home—Predator: Badlands remains in theaters and will likely be available to stream in early January.
