Actress Wumi Toriola has publicly explained her recent apology to senior colleague Afeez Owo, describing her gesture as a reflection of her commitment to cultural values and respect for elders.

The controversy began in September when Wumi criticised Afeez after he remarked that her film roles mirrored her real-life personality, suggesting she “tolerates no nonsense” and reacts when pushed. Wumi called the comments “rubbish” and questioned the practice of discussing personal disagreements on podcasts.

However, during the premiere of Odunlade Adekola’s latest movie, Wumi made a heartfelt public apology, kneeling before Afeez and saying:

“I’m sorry, sir. Please forgive me.”

She later took to Instagram to explain her decision, stating that choosing peace and showing respect to elders was paramount. Wumi wrote:

“I chose to apologise to our legend because I am a true ambassador of culture, and even in ‘anger’, our elders should be off limits.
Also, because our elders deserved calm waters, not raised voices. Once again, to our fans, friends, no more grudges. I have chosen peace.
Thank you for your forgiving self @officialafeezowo_fanspage @officialafeezowo.”

The actress’s apology has been widely praised by fans, highlighting her emphasis on cultural respect, humility, and reconciliation within the Nigerian film industry.
