Speaking during a recent interview on Naija FM Lagos, the 42-year-old actress said she has adopted a more relaxed outlook on marriage, shaped largely by personal experience. While she does not rule out remarrying in the future, she made it clear that she is no longer actively seeking it.
According to Jegede, long-term relationships do not always benefit from formalizing the union. She observed that many couples who dated for years before getting married often separate shortly after tying the knot, suggesting that marriage itself can introduce new pressures.
She explained that once a relationship is labeled as a marriage, expectations and intolerance can increase, sometimes leading to conflict. In her view, emotional compatibility and mutual understanding matter more than the marital title, adding that cohabitation with someone you love can sometimes be a healthier option.
Jegede’s comments come several years after her marriage to fellow actor and filmmaker Olakunle “Abounce” Fawole ended in 2019, less than a year after it began. The actress has previously spoken openly about the breakdown of the union, citing financial imbalance and a lack of respect from her former husband as key issues.
In earlier interviews, she also revealed that she was the primary financial provider during the marriage and admitted to regretting her decision to prioritize love over financial stability. Those experiences, she has said, significantly reshaped her views on relationships and marriage.
Now, Jegede says she has learned not to speak in absolutes, choosing instead to remain open-minded while focusing on personal peace and fulfillment rather than societal expectations.
