The decision was conveyed in an official circular dated January 20, 2026, signed by the University Registrar, Dr Acho Elendu. According to the notice, the ceremony will hold at the university pavilion and is scheduled to commence at 11:00 a.m.
Students expected to participate in the matriculation include postgraduate students who did not graduate from ABSU, newly admitted first-year undergraduate students in the Regular programme and the Institute for Continuing Education (ICE) who have paid their school fees, as well as other duly admitted and cleared students who were unable to matriculate in their year of admission for valid reasons.
The university also announced that the cost for hiring matriculation regalia—comprising the gown and cap—along with the matriculation brochure, has been fixed at N15,000. Payments are to be made strictly at the ABSU Microfinance Bank, Uturu, and must be completed on or before Tuesday, February 24, 2026. Issuance of matriculation materials is expected to begin on Wednesday, February 25, 2026.
ABSU emphasised that participation in the matriculation ceremony is compulsory for all fresh students. Only candidates who have formally accepted their admission offers, paid the required fees, and completed course registration will be recognised as bona fide students and allowed to matriculate.
The February 27 date represents a notable departure from recent practice, as matriculation ceremonies in previous academic sessions were held much later. Records show that the 2024/2025 matriculation took place on April 11, 2025, while the 2023/2024 and 2022/2023 sessions were held on August 16, 2024, and August 25, 2023, respectively.
The earlier scheduling has been widely viewed as a sign of improved academic planning and administrative efficiency by the university management.
Affected students have been advised to adhere strictly to the stated guidelines and timelines to avoid disqualification from the exercise.
